Here’s a really fun house we lived in outside of Taos, NM. It was designed and built by Peter Kolshorn and is a modified Quonset Hut.

Hi,
I am very intrigued by converted Quonset hut you lived in. I am looking to convert a 25′ X 40′ hut into a drum and dance studio. I am very curious about the cover that is over the top exterior. Did it provided ample insulation in the winter?
Hi Sanjeet,
There was some kind of foam sprayed over the hut and then plastered over. One winter it was 30 below (F) every morning. We went through just a cord and a half of wood that winter. We’d burn a stoveload of wood in the morning and that would heat the hut and side rooms for the full day. I should add that there were solar windows on the rooms that weren’t part of the Quonset hut and that NM is sunny almost every day. Still I’d say the insulation with the setup we had worked amazingly well.
Good luck on your project. It sounds really cool!
