Abiquiu, New Mexico
Abiquiu, New Mexico is hands down the most beautiful place I have ever lived. E-commerce arrived out of nowhere and suddenly I could move my business out into the boonies and still make a living. I had a 3 room cabin that was newly and nicely refinished inside and a slag heap of an outdoor area which I tackled as a major project. After pulling out a bunch of old rusty barb wire, dead leaves and chamisa bushes I dug as many beds as I could squeeze in which had to be fenced against all kinds of local hungry critters. Then they all had to be gopher proofed (by lining the sides and bottoms beds with metal fencing.) I had a big flower garden and tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, peppers and herbs. It was the best Spring ever working in the garden all day every day.
Abiquiu is an enchanted place. It is so beautiful. The sky, the trees… I lived on the Chama River - which was a stones throw from my deck - in a riperian zone and it felt like I was a visitor in a land of birds while I lived there - bald eagles, chickadees, ravens, finches, hawks, doves, grosbeaks . . . .
Almost all the pictures are taken around my cabin. The mosque and rock photos are from Pena Blanca - a spot directly across the river from me; the ruins were at the entry way to our road.
